Blog post - My field of study

Psychology

In our days, psychology has become an important aspect in society. It deals with many problems since it is the study of the mind and behaviour. It helps humans understand why we behave in a certain way and what makes each person different from the other. It also studies the process of thinking, learning and even our personalities. One of its main goals is to explain what happened and why it happened in order to help find a solution to the problem. In this essay, I will explain further more the mood, the self-esteem and the motivation of psychology.

First of all, in psychology there is a mood. A mood is an emotional state. It can be something positive or negative. Why positive? Because it can be caused by many different aspects of life. A good mood is usually considered a state without an identified cause; people cannot explain exactly why they are in a good mood. It seems to be when they had a good night's sleep, when they feel no sense of stress in their life, when they do sports because it can reduce depression or when they go out with some friends. Negative moods can help people in situations in which heavy thinking and brainstorming are involved. Why negative? Because it can have an important implication for human mental and physical well being. Also, negative moods can affect an individual’s judgment and perception of objects and events. It is mostly related to depression, anxiety, physiological stress and aggression.

Second of all, self-esteem is a really important aspect in life. It is a judgment of oneself as well as an attitude toward the self that can be high or low. When an individual accomplishes something good; they feel a recovery and can evaluate their actions as being in opposition to his values. These people do not necessarily feel guilty when others don't like their opinions or choices. They enjoy a lot of activities in life and have a great interpersonal relationships. People with low self-esteem can result from different factors like genetics, bullying or physical appearance. These types of people are used to criticizing themselves and striving for perfection but sometimes they

do not reach their goals. This is normal because "nobody is perfect". These people are unhappy, depressed and have negative attitudes most of the time, because they are concerned about what other people think of them.

Third of all, in psychology the term motivation nominates the orientation of emotions of a person to his goal. Often people will choose between the action or rest and it is usually manifested by the deployment of energy. They will not be motivated to go search for help beside a psychologist. This hierarchy below shows that the higher the level, the more motivation becomes important. A human must take care of his physiological needs like hydration, nutrition and rest. One also needs to feel safe in his entourage and not be afraid to ask for help whenever it is needed. The individual must gain the confidence of the people he loves so he can have the encouragement to see a psychologist. In other words, motivation is a logical sequence.

In conclusion, psychology is a very large program studying human behaviour. I want to become a psychologist and help others, that's why I chose to explain the mood, the self-esteem and the motivation because they are the three important concepts related to this field of study. Psychology will always be an interesting subject and as I said it gives importance to the various human behaviours because each individual has different emotions, stimulus and thoughts.

My hypertext Narrative

Start here

It all started like this.

Sarah graduated at University of Montreal in psychology. She was very experimented in that field of study. Since psychology is divided into several specific professions, Sarah did not know what profession to specialize but she decided to become a forensic psychologist, a family therapy or a neurologist.

Choice 1:  Sarah decided to become a forensic psychologist.
Choice 2: Sarah decided to become a family therapy
Choice 3: Sarah decided to become a neurologist.

Scene 1.

Being a forensic psychologist is very fascinating because there is always a new situation that must be managed. Sarah was dealing with issues that connect psychology and the law. She was mostly confronted people who had a problem of behaviour, sexual delinquency and psychopathy. After a few days in that job, she was in her workplace for an overtime and suddently her phone rang. It was a police who warned Sarah that there is a serial killer who has escaped from prison. She was very scared and was very concerned about that and could not focus with the problems of her other patients. After a long day, she returned home and discovered that the front door of her beautiful house was broken. Sarah came in and saw the killer with a gun in his hand. She begged him not to kill her and she would do anything he wanted! At that moment, she felt harassed. She gave him all her money because that was the thing he wanted and she didn't say a word to anyone. If she spoke, he would kill her. After this trauma, Sarah traveled with her mother to Mexico to regain her senses because she knew that the serial killer was not arrested.

Scene 2.

The therapy family works with couples and families in confidential social interaction to develop and change some ways of acting or doing. When Sarah started to work in this branch, she had an emotional experience that she never forgot. She was on holiday that day and decided to go at a grocery shopping. On her returned, she discovered a young boy named John and he was sitting at the door of his house. He was crying and was 5 years old.  Sarah loved children, she had not the courage to leave him in that state. That's why she went to see him and asked him what happened. He told her that his parents always squabbling and it destabilized him in his concentration at school, in his self-esteem, in his attitude and he was stressed all the time. As a psychologist, Sarah was able to act. The child with such problems may have consequences later. She went to John's house and met his parents to explain who she was and what she was doing here. She told them that she was a therapy family and she was ready to give them help. After a lot of months of meeting and put them into practice, they decided to divorce and they did not want to know anything about their child. While Sarah decided to take care of John.

Scene 3.

Some of the people knows that the neurologist deals with the nervous system, anatomy and physiology. Sarah had a client who was hallucinated. First, the fact of hallucinate are hearing (to hear sounds, music or voices) or visual (seeing monsters, insects, robbers). The patient named Mike was suffered from sleep disorder such as Sarah's brother. She would do everything to help him even if helping her brother was not easy for her at all. Mike went to see Sarah in her office to explain that he constantly heard criminals voices telling him that he must steal. More he ignored their voices more they became stronger. Sarah had to leave the office to go to the pharmacy and Mike went with her. In the store, he could not resist stealing. The voices were ordered him to do that. No one has suspected something because he dragged the objects stolen in Sarah's bag. At the same time, security has seen the situation. Mike has fled and Sarah was left with the problems. She was accused of thieving because of Mike and she has forgotten her psychological job to go to jail. If she wanted to return to her work, she will be in a lower position. This means she will have a dead-end job.

Field-Related Article Summary

                                                       Typical Day in Life for a Forensic Psychologist

I'm a student from Lebanon but live in Montreal. I'm studying psychology legal witch is related to legal principles and criminal responsibility. It is a program that interests me because I'm going to be working with the offenders in particular those who are in prison. As a psychologist, I will be responsible for intervening with people with emotional problems, social or intellectual. I will also have to find solutions and help the people. For this, I must diagnose and evaluate their psychological and mental state. But also, I must use various psychological tests to evaluate the intellectual capacity or skills or to know some aspects of the personality of the person or a group of person. All these test will help me to know the necessary information about the person (troubles, mood, behaviour, ability).

The forensic psychologist can work in several settings such as the police, prisons, schools, and government agencies. This type of psychologists can work directly with the accused, lawyers, criminals, students, families and victims. They may also work in organizations of colleges. Their goal is to try to identify and explain the origin of criminal behaviour. Psychologists work with many people. There is no typical day to show what these workers are doing in this area because every day they have a new situation to manage. It's hard to define their everyday life because they have many responsibilities. We can see the principal aspects of what a real psychologist must do for each given situation in this position:

- They must complete documents to evaluate the risks of each individual. These risks can be positif because the psychologist can evaluate if you are free from prison but they also can be negatif because some of the people will be able to commit a suicide;
- Show the results of each offender to the boss;
- Always ensure control of groups so that people respect the instructions;
- Being able to join the group meetings.

Three Most Important Concept In Psychology

In our days psychology has become an important subject. It deals with many problems of our daily lives. Psychology is the study of mind and behaviour. It helps understand why we behave a certain way and what makes each person different from the other. For example, it studies the process of thinking, learning and even our personalities. One of its main goal is to explain what happened and why it happened in order to help find a solution to any problem. In this essay, I will explain further more the mood, the self-esteem and the motivation.

First of all, in psychology there is a mood. A mood is an emotial state. It can be something positive or negative. Why positive? Because it can be caused by many different aspects of life. Good mood is usually considered a state without an identified cause; people can not explain exactly why they are in a good mood. It seems to be when they had a good night sleep, and feel no sense of stress in their life. Also, when they do sports because it can reduce depression. Why negative? Because it can have an important implication for human mental and physical well being. Also, negative moods can affect an individual’s judgment and perception of objects and events. It is mostly related to depression, anxiety, physiological stress and aggression.

Second of all, self-esteem is an aspect really important in life. It can be high or low. People with high self-esteem believe in certain values and they are always ready to defend them. These people are not feeling guilty when others don't necessary like their opinion or choice. They enjoy a lot of activities in life. People with low self-esteem can result from different factors like genetic, bullying, physical and weight appearance. These people used to criticize themselves and always to strive for perfection but sometimes they do not reach this perfection.

Third of all, in psychology the term motivation nominate the orientation of emotions of a person to his goal. Often people will choose between the action or rest. They will not be motivated to go search for help beside a psychologist. This hierarchy shows that the more we increase level the more motivation becomes very important. First, the humain need to take care of his physiological needs (eat, drink, sleep). After that, he needs to feel safe with people around him and the place where he lives. He must feel loved by others to finally reach the top with confident. In other words, motivation is a logical sequence.

For conclusion, psychology is a very large program of study but still studied human behaviour. The mood, the self-esteem and the motivation are the three important concept in that field. Psychology will always be a subject interesting because as I said it gave importance to the various human behaviours because each individual has emotions, thoughts and a way to act differently.
